This is it. I think that its pretty good. I wanted to use a logo that I created for myself so I mad that be set into the background. I went for a earthy color pallette which seems to be an on going theme in my work this year. I've included 3 different pieces from print and photography. I want to eventually include web, as well as studio and video pieces.

Concert Calander

Thought very frustrating in the beginning, I'm very pleased with what I was able to come up with for this redesign. I tried to match my color pallette with colrs that matched the guitar. Also I added the musical set in a slightly lighter color than the background just for an extra touch. Thank you to Ted for showing me how to add an additional scroll bar for the concert dates, it really makes the page a lot cleaner and tighter.

Since my blog is titled "Things in my mind" I wanted my redisgn to have a feeling of leading the reader in like they were being led into my mind with a picture of a subway staircase. I didn't want the colors to be to overpowering so I tried to stay with a color scheme that matched my photo. There were a couple of things that I'm not satisfied with in my design though. One is I wanted to have padding around the text.

The main idea I had for the redesign of Fry Steel Company's website was to go for a sleek, modern look. To accomplish this I used a brushed steel pic for the header of the page trying to convery the idea that they are a steel company because their design had nothing to do with steel. I tried to keep the nav bar simple with a light font. Also the color I chose was what I thought was closest to what the color for metal would be. A lovely steel blue. I think that my redesign would effectively communicate to their audience that they specialize in metal products.

10 Rules of good navigation

Clarity
-The designers navigation is a little confusing, merely for the fact that the collage of pictures where the links are located is a little complex. Along the botom of the page is a navigation bar with all the different sections labled.

Consistency
-The website stays very consistant throughout each page. Every page has the same setup with everything located in the same place which makes it very easy to navigate through.

Efficiency
-The links on the first page don't go much beyond the second section keeping someone from wondering accidently off the page.

Toolbars and panels
-The navigation toolbar on the home page is very easy to navigate through. On each one of the secondary pages there are thumbnails of what the large picture is.

Alternatives
-There is really no other navigation other than the navigation bar on the home page.

Visual messages
-this portfolio has tons of visual messages. Each projects has all the sketches that were down with a description.

Easily learned
-this website is very easy to learn to navigate through. A navigational toolbar along the bottom of the home page is very clear.

Navigation
-this website isn't that complex so the navigation is very easy. A collage of pictures feature rollovers to describe what the picture is.

Supports users behaviors
-This website definately supports users behaviors. There is an abondence of info to tell you where to go and what will be there when you get there.

That portfolio site that I looked at was a fabulous little site called okaydave.com. This was set by a grade student as his thesis. Its amazing! The first thing that pops out at you is the amzing flash animation that he has going on. Also the amount of projects that he has completed is also stagering. For every project that he completed, there is a video of him explaining the project and the steps he took toward his solution. There must be hundreds of drawings and sketches from each project. The project that I found was the most interesting was his wine bottle logo designs. He starts off the video by saying that since he knew nothing about wine, that he went to go talk with his aunt who is a wine conasur. He then goes on to show how he designed each type of wine(red, white and rose) to corralate with a different musical note. The designs for the bottles are like sheet music so when the bottles are displayed together they look like a piece of sheet music. I love this site.
