Website ads

Tuesday, September 26, 2006

For the first time using Frieworks to make web animation I think that I did quite well. For this ad I was advertising apple computers new operating system Leopard. For the concept I tried to stick with the look that is the apple brand. That is one thing that I thought was successful. One thing that I was unsuccessful in accomplishing was the timing. It needs major work.

For my second ad I chose to advertise Geico auto insurance as my service. For this concept i also wanted to use familiar images to make it look and feel like a Geico advertisement. I feel that for this solution I was more successful in the timing aspect, but no doubt that it still needs some work. One thing that I was pleased with was the quality of the photos that I was able to find.

Nike vs. ShockU

Thursday, September 21, 2006

For this specific blog I chose to compare how a website uses good roll-over effects (Nike.com) and how a website uses bad rollever effects (shocku.com). First the use of good roll-over effects. Nike has use of these all over there website starting with the first page. The rollovers are very new age and modern. Its nice how the link turns just a slightly different shade of grey instead of some crazy color. Then in the home page is where it really shines. They use rollovers with each of the four links, but the links are not just text, pictures are incorporated within it. As you rollever the link, it becomes illuminated. Really cool. Also at the bottom of the page, the link for the "design your own shoe" section has great effects buy subtly changing the shoes color when it is rolled over.

For my example of a website with poor uses of rollovers I chose shocku.com. The few ones that it does have are tacky and a little distracting. For example, the rollovers for the links on the home page appear to have electricity running through them. Also the links for the videos is a little distracting. When the numbers are rolled over they shake continuously. This in my opinion is a poor example of how to use rollovers and other animations correctly.

Alumni Networking E-mailer Review

Thursday, September 07, 2006

Our class was presented with problem...designing an e-mailer for the Moravian College Alumni Networking reception. The decisions I made in my solution I made for very specific reasons. I knew that in order to appeal to Moravain alumni and catch their attention the colors would have to be Moravian's own blue and grey. Also what is a anything Moravian without the famous coopala (spelling?). My thought was to make it simple without a lot of clutter. I decided to frame the top and bottom with bands of color which would center the page. The top i choose to use pics form past networking events to show what the reception was all about and had to offer. In the end I wanted it to really have the feel of a Moravian design so I didn't try and take any unecessary risks.

Review on Peter Dorsi Blog

Tuesday, September 05, 2006

I thought I would choose something that was near and dear to my heart...video games. Since I spend most of my time playing them it seemed only natural. So I took a look at Peter Dorsi's blog where he reflects on anything electronic, from movies to new software. First, some of the things that I like. His page is very stylish and modern with a fresh trendy graphic header. Also his page is really easy to navigate through. Its clear to see where everything is arranged chronologically and how to get to the specific topic the viewer is interested in. The page also contains a very clear search bar and catagories section. One thing that I wasn't to thrilled about was the choice of having light pink text on a white background. For me it was a little difficult to read. All in all my feeling is that this is a killer blog for new technology.
